The next phase of improvements are coming the rink very soon. Yavapai County has hired BMA Architects to complete the design and they have submitted a draft proposal. Members of the Board of PYHA met with County Supervisor Carole Springer and the City Parks and Rec Dept. on the 7th and a public meeting was held on the 14th. As it stands now, the proposed improvements will consist of new bleachers on the east side, amphitheater seating on the south side, more paved parking, a concrete plaza on the east side, concessions, rest rooms, drinking fountains, landscaping, picnic area, and storage for our gear and equipment. This is all preliminary and could change. The start of construction is not yet set but could possibly begin this summer after final plans have been submitted. A little history for those newer members; the PYHA originally was loosely formed in 2003 as the Pioneer Park Inline Hockey Association and the few members at that time basically raised all the money for the facility as you see it today. Up to this point, private donations funded the construction and maintenance of the rink, boards, lights, sidewalk, etc. and volunteers did all of the work and/or construction coordination. The Pioneer Park Inline Hockey Association was reformed and renamed the Prescott Youth Hockey Association and received non-profit status in late 2006. The rink currently sits on County land but after the next phase of improvements are completed by the County, the County will turn over the land to the City of Prescott and we will begin working more closely with the City Parks and Rec Dept. with whom we've developed excellent relations and have been just wonderful to work with. We expect great things in the future. |
